New Cadbury Darkmilk Chocolate - Salted Caramel Flavour!

by - 10:38

Not so long ago, I tried Cadbury Darkmilk. I enjoyed it, so I decided to try another flavour in the range, Darkmilk with salted caramel! I LOVE salted caramel flavoured things, so this sounded perfect, and I couldn't wait to try it!

Darkmilk is one of Cadbury's latest creations. It combines dark chocolate with creamy Cadbury goodness, so it isn't as overwhelming. This range comes in 4 flavours; original, salted caramel, roasted almond and one with crunchy cocoa pieces. There are also darkmilk buttons!

I managed to get this bar on offer at 99p, but it is usually £1.50 for 85g. The bar is smaller than a normal Cadbury bar. A 3 piece serving contains 77 calories which is somehow lower in calories than the original bar!

When you open the bar, you're welcomed by a rich cocoa scent. It resembles the smell of dark chocolate more than Cadbury chocolate. You can see pieces of caramel scattered throughout the bar! When I first picked up the bar, I didn't expect hard caramel brittle (although the packet shows this!). I was thinking more along the lines of Dairy milk's caramel. It was an interesting twist which poses more adult, I suppose!

The crunchy caramel pieces didn't resemble salted caramel as I had hoped. The caramel flavour was there, and the crunch bits were an enjoyable contrast to the smooth chocolate, but, I didn't taste much of a saltiness. There was a subtle hint in the background. The chocolate is surprisingly sweet, as is the caramel so it would have been nice for some more salt to break up the sweetness. I also would have liked some more of the brittle. The salted caramel was the main flavour, and there wasn't as much as I had hoped.

I would have also liked the chunks to be more evenly distributed. If you look in the photos, there aren't as many as I would have liked. Some chunks had noticeably fewer pieces in as well.

The chocolate was delicious. As I had mentioned in my other darkmilk review, the chocolate was surprisingly tasty. I am not a fan of dark chocolate as it is too rich and bitter. I found that with a creamy Cadbury addition, dark chocolate becomes enjoyable! The chocolate is smooth and isn't claggy like milk chocolate.

I enjoyed this bar. It isn't what I had expected, but it was an interesting addition to the darkmilk collection. I would have liked to see it with oozing caramel instead as this bar was almost like a Daim bar. It had the same nature about it. I suppose that would defeat the purpose of a healthier chocolate bar!

I would recommend this chocolate bar for any Daim lovers out there who want a dip in the darkmilk waters. While it is on offer, it is definitely worth the try! It was delicious and had a mature sense about it. I would have liked it to resemble salted caramel a little more, which could easily be achieved with a bit more salt.

Darkmilk is something I am a fan of, but there is a battle between which bar is my favourite. Have you ever tried Cadbury darkmilk? I would love to know your thoughts!

  2. It's a shame about the lack of salt - which can really lift up chocolate, but it sounds delicious anyway.

  6. I love Cadbury! I had it for the first time when I visited Australia last year and, though I like the milk chocolate more since I am milk chocolate gal, I was surprised at how much I liked the darkmilk salted nut bar.
