Baking Allergen Free Vegan Choc Chip Cookies

by - 12:04

It can be hard to find a delicious treat that suits all allergens. Angels & Cookies creates award-winning, ready to go cookie dough which is free-from the top 14 allergens! I got my hands on some chunky chocolate chip cookie dough to make for my mum's birthday so let's bake!

My mum has coeliac disease, so we have to be careful with what we are all eating. It can be unfair when we are all enjoying baked goods, and she can't join in. I was really excited to come across Angels & Cookies as it means that we can all be included. It allows the family to get together and bake easily. It also means we can all enjoy the cookies afterwards.

Each 350g tub costs £7.99, which seems quite expensive, but the product is niche and gourmet. There are 4 flavours to choose from; chunky choc chip, ginger spice, fantastic fudge and very vanilla, so there is something for everyone! Each tub makes around 12 cookies.

Can we just appreciate how good this cookie dough looks!
The instructions were easy to follow, and I loved how simple the process was. You take it out the tub, split the dough and bake! We measured each ball into 30g, which made us 11 cookies. You flatten the dough before baking and can choose the thickness. We like thicker, softer cookies, but you can make them thin and snappable. The baking time was short, only 10 minutes, but I wish I had taken them out sooner as I really love a soft cookie!

The cookies didn't spread how I thought they would. Once you flatten them, make sure they are exactly how you want them to look as they stay the same size roughly. It means that mine don't look wonderfully round, but they are unique. I also am unsure about how the mixture divides into more than 11 cookies. The cookies were small as it is, but the tub claims the mixture could be split into 120 mini cookies. I assume these would be very mini but would be interesting to try out!

The cookies were delicious! I had one warm, and they were divine. There was a lovely amount of chocolate chips throughout the cookie. The chips were dark and almost bitter, which complemented the sweet cookie well. The cookie wasn't overly sweet either, but it was nice because it wasn't too sickly. There was a nice crunch around the edge with a softer centre. It was a nice treat and one that would be great to gift to someone. Did I mention the were vegan too!?

Best served warm with a glass of milk!
These were really tasty cookies. I wouldn't have guessed that they were vegan, let alone gluten-free. They were enjoyable and customisable to your own preference in a cookie. I would recommend trying out Angels & Cookies, especially if you are avoiding certain allergens. I think baking your own cookies with this much ease is a no-brainer. You get the joy of baking your own cookies and eating your creation without buying all the ingredients, making the dough etc. The whole process took about 20 minutes, including baking time, so would also be a fun activity to do with the kids during the lockdown.

I would love to try some of the other flavours. I'd assume the ginger spice one tastes divine! Do you suffer from allergens? I'd love to know if you have any recommendations for products we could try!
