If you're like me, then you've already started Christmas shopping and preparing for the big day! I love Christmas, and it's one of my favourite times of the year. It's also a big time of year for bloggers, especially those participating in Blogmas! I thought I'd share some of the best ways to prepare for Blogmas, some post ideas for you to try and advice on having the best Blogmas ever!

What Is Blogmas?

There are different types of Blogmas, but it is where you blog every day up to Christmas. It's similar to an advent calendar, or Vlogmas, which is the video version of Blogmas. Blogmas is a fun excuse to post every day and create Christmas related content for your readers. You don't have to blog about Christmas every day. There are different types of Blogmas for you do participate in as well!

Daily Blogmas Posting - The most popular way of doing Blogmas is by posting a blog post every day until Christmas.

Alternative Blogmas - You blog every other day until Christmas. Alternatively, you could alternate between Christmas and regular content.

12 Days Of Blogmas - You blog 12 days before Christmas. You only have to dedicate 12 days of the month to Blogmas

How To Plan Content For Blogmas

Planning content can be hard, especially if you don't know where to start. I'd recommend using "A Guide To Having A Successful Blogmas" as a tool to help you plan your content. It has over 100 content ideas and planning pages for you to use. It gives you the rundown of what to do, how to plan etc.

After you've decided on what type of Blogmas you'd like to have, you need to come up with content. I'd recommend writing down all of the days you need an idea for so that you can keep track of what posts you're writing. I also like to have a tick box, so that I can tick off any posts I've written and scheduled. It's a great way to stay organised with your planning.

Once you've got your plan, you can start filling in blog post ideas. In the Blogmas Guide, there are over 100 ideas for you to use. I've also included a few in the section below to get you started! If you can, theme your Blogmas posts to your blog's niche. It will appeal more to your readers. For example, if you're a fashion blog, you could include your favourite Christmas jumpers. If you're a food blogger, you may want to share some delicious Christmas cupcake recipes!

The reason I am posting this in October is that you need to start writing NOW! I've been planning Blogmas since August so that I have content written already. The more posts you can write ahead of time, the less stressful Blogmas will be. Writing a post every day can be challenging, especially if you haven't done it before. If you're able to write just one post every weekend from today, you'll have 7 posts by the time you get to December 1st.

It's helpful to have blog posts already scheduled. If you can, create pins and schedule tweets ahead of time too. It will save you a lot of hassle later on. It also means that you can focus on decorating your house and wrapping presents, rather than writing Blogmas posts a day before it's due to be published!

How To Have A Successful Blogmas

Blogmas can be challenging, but it feels amazing when you're able to complete the 25 days. If you're up for a challenge, you could always blog for the whole month of December. If you're looking to have a successful blogging season, here are my top tips!

Plan Ahead Of Time

As I mentioned before, planning ahead of time will ensure that your Blogmas runs as smoothly as possible. Not only will you have content planned, but if you manage to write and schedule it, that's one less thing to do in December. Organisation is the key to a successful Blogmas!

Don't Follow The Crowd

It's easy to do the same 20 posts as every other blogger. Don't be generic, mix things up a bit! It's okay to share your favourite Christmas films, but it 30 bloggers share the same films, I'm not going to read it. Use the ideas a base and change them to suit your niche. You could even come up with your own unique ideas. If you come up with original content, you'll see more traffic.

Keep Things Simple & Easy

Don't go crazy with your ideas. If you're doing something unique, make sure it's manageable. Not all of your content needs to be festive, so try and include pre-written "typical" blog posts too. The more difficult you make it, the more stressful it'll be. Don't make things hard for yourself!

Don't Put Pressure On Yourself

If you've signed up for a whole month of blogging, don't feel pressured to fulfil that. What you decide now may be different down the line. If your heart's not in it, don't put pressure on yourself. It's better to have 10 amazing posts, than 31 poorly written ones.

  2. Hi Em. Blogmas isn't for me - I struggle to make one post per month let alone one per day! :-) However, for those that are contemplating this your plan is excellent. I can well imagine that it is vital to get posts written in advance so that you already have some ammunition ready for when December arrives. How many do you have prepared?
