Long-Term Blogging Goals For The New Year

Wednesday, December 23, 2020

As the new year approaches, I've been looking forward to a lot of things. I have also come so far in the short time that I have been blogging. The new year is a chance to look towards the future, which is why I thought I'd share my long-term blogging goals. I didn't want to make them resolutions or "new year" goals as if I'm not aiming to finish them all this year. Here are my long term blogging goals, and what I am looking forward to achieving with my blog!

Run My Blog Full-Time As A Business

During the lockdown, I was given the change to blog full time. I loved spending my day working on new posts, promoting my blog and trying out side hustles. I've never felt better mentally, and I liked the freedom it bought. As an 18-year-old, I couldn't pass up on the opportunity to do an apprenticeship and become a qualified accountant. Although I love blogging, I wouldn't want to regret it later down the line. My goal for the future would be to get qualified, do a few years as an accountant and start my own business as a blogger. It's a very far-reaching goal, but I am determined to find that level of happiness again.

Create A Home Office

This isn't just blogging related, but I'd love to have a home office or writing room. My dream writing room would have a comfy sofa in the corner in case I didn't want to sit at my desk. I'd also have all my side hustle things and a whiteboard to jot down blog post ideas. It would be amazing to have an outdoor office, like a den. Being in the sun during summer and listening to the rain on my den roof would be amazing conditions to work in.

Completely Finish Improving My Blog's SEO

When I first started, I didn't know about good SEO techniques. It wasn't until I had around 3 months worth of content that I realised I needed to change some things. There are lots of posts I need to go back over and add in meta descriptions or alt text on images. I am slowly making my way through, but some of my earlier posts still need to be updated. Updating blog posts is a long process, but it'll be worth it as good SEO improves your search engine rankings, increasing your traffic. I would love to finish improving all my old blog posts so that they're optimised and getting as much organic traffic as possible.

Give My Blog A Make Over

I've had the same blog template since I started, so I'd love to update it at a later date. I am a little bit reluctant to let it go, but I've noticed some people have the same template as me. Adding a refreshing touch of colour, a new logo and a different template are all on my to-do list. I'd love for something unique and cute, so if you know anywhere to buy affordable blog templates, send the links my way! I am planning on spending a whole day changing the layout, updating my about me pages and fixing up a new template.

Update Old Blog Posts

This is an ongoing goal, but something I need to start doing more. Blog posts can get outdated quickly, so I've been updating posts every week. I choose 2-3 blog posts to update, and I fix what I can. Sometimes it just needs a new picture and a few links, while others need a face-lift. I recently updated my "Disney+ recommendations" post to a "Disney+ Bucketlist" post which saw that blog post's traffic double. I am focusing on the older blog posts first as they need a lot of TLC. If you want to change up your blog posts, here are some helpful guides:

How to refresh your old blog content into something new

Reach A DA Of 30

I have been stuck at the same DA score for a while now, so increasing my DA score is a massive goal for me. I chose a DA of 30 as I think it's quite a respectable number. I could work with a wide range of brands and be accepted for a lot of opportunities. I would love to hit a DA score of 30, so if you have any backlink opportunities, send them my way! In my DA score post, I mentioned backlinks are a great way to build up your score. It's how I jumped from 0 to 16 in just 4 months of blogging! In the new year, I'd love to do more collaborations to build up backlinks.

Reach 5,000 Twitter Followers

I am well on my way to hitting this target, but it's a milestone I've wanted to reach for a while. I love twitter, and it's my main source of traffic along with Pinterest. I use it every day, so my goal for the next year is to increase my engagement rate and hit 5,000 followers. It's not a massive goal, but it's something I'd really like to reach before the end of 2021. If I hit this target, my next goal will be 7,500! Improving my engagement rate is important too. I sometimes forget to engage with other people, and therefore I don't always get the best engagement back. It's something I am working on to improve.

Get A Grasp On Instagram

I have a love-hate relationship with Instagram. There are times where I will post consistently, and others where I run out of ideas. I'd love to be able to nail Instagram and use it to help my blog. I also think it would be amazing to have sponsored Instagram post requesting rolling into my DMs. I tend to go towards food posts as I love baking and eating, so it's content that comes easier to me. If you're not already following me, I'd love to reach 1000 followers this year. Would you help a girl out?

My goals are personal to me, so don't feel pressured to achieve the same things. If you're making blogging goals or even goals for the new year, make sure they're realistic. You don't want to set yourself up for failure. For those who have set goals, I wish you all the best in the new year. It can be daunting and hard work, but once you've hit the target, you'll be so thankful you put in the work. What are your blogging goals for the next year? I'd love to know what you're aiming towards and if you're setting goals.

I've come to the conclusion, I want to use IG for my readers to get an extra glimpse into my life. yes, i focus on promoting my blog posts, but I also want to share products i'm loving, my day to day or just inspirational quotes. people really like IG stories as well and I try to post polls and questions to get people involved.
