Why You Should Be Using A Reusable Bottle

AD - This post contains gifted items, but all opinions are my own

I like to promote sustainability on my blog, and one thing I am passionate about is reusable water bottles. There is no excuse to be buying single use-plastic bottles when there are so many amazing reusable ones out there. I have kindly been gifted a reusable bottle from Moon Bottles to review and show you why you need to be using a reusable bottle!

Who is Moon Bottle?

Moon Bottles is run by a husband and wife team. They create sustainable and reusable water bottles. Moon Bottles was created when founder, Lynette, was travelling around the world. She realised that everyone was experiencing issues with waste, single-use plastics being the biggest source of pain. She decided to create reusable alternatives which are guaranteed to last forever. Moon Bottles come in 3 sizes; 260ml, 500ml and 750ml. Similar to a Chillys Bottle, you can customise the colour, but the lids are all stainless steel.

Testing Out A Moon Bottle!

I was kindly sent a Moon bottle to review before I go onto why you need to be using a reusable bottle! I was sent a 500ml stainless steel bottle called a "classic moon" on their website! I have tried a Chillys bottle, but I thought it would be a good idea to switch to independent small businesses!

When the bottle first arrive, it was in a cardboard tube. The bottle is contained in a biodegradable bag, which I thought was a nice touch. The bottle was lightweight, even in the tube. When water was inside the bottle, it wasn't too heavy either, making it the perfect on the go bottle. The design was sleek and similar to other bottles on the market. I really liked the stainless steel look, but would consider another colour too!

I haven't tested the bottle with hot drinks, so I can't comment on how well it kept the heat. I did use the bottle for cold drinks and was impressed with how long it stayed cold. The bottle is designed to keep things cold for 24 hours, although my drink didn't last that long! The bottle didn't leak n my bag, something that I find a few screw-top bottles do... I can't seem to put on lids properly! I thought it was really high quality and durable for the price. I would happily pay £14.99 for another one! If you use the code "EMMOON", you will get 15% off your order, making the bottles even more affordable!

The bottle was relatively easy to clean. You are supposed to hand wash it after every use, but it is quite hard to reach all the way to the bottom without a long scrubbing brush. This bottle was one of the best reusable bottles I have tried! It encouraged me to drink more and didn't leave a strange taste in my mouth as some do. I love how easy it is to carry around and drink from. I highly recommend this bottle, it's the perfect summer essential! I am really impressed with their environmentally friendly packaging too! If you're looking for a bottle, this is the one to get! With a range of colours to choose from, there's no reason not to love this bottle!

Why You Should Be Using A Reusable Bottle

It Can Save You Money

If you buy a plastic bottle, it'll cost you around £1 for a standard bottle. One Moon bottle will cost you £16.99 for the largest bottle possible (or less if you use my 15% off code, EMMOON). A plastic bottle is single-use, so you'll have to buy a new one every time, but a Moon bottle is a lifetime investment. You'd only pay £17 to have a water bottle for the rest of your life which is cheaper in the long run! Reusable bottles are fantastic ways to save money!

Reusable Bottles Are Better For Your Health

Plastic bottles contain chemicals such as BPA, which isn't great for your health. Many say it can affect growth, cell repair and energy levels. If you reuse your plastic bottles, it starts to deteriorate, and you can ingest little plastic particles. Bacteria will also start to grow, which you'll also be ingesting. This is because it's hard to give a single-use plastic a thorough cleaning. Washing it properly will cause the bottle to disintegrate faster as the warm water begins to break it down. Your best chance is to ditch the plastic and get a reusable one!

They Look Stylish

There are so many reusable bottles out there with different colours, styles and customisable features. They all look a lot better than their plastic alternatives. It can make it easier to identify your bottle, it looks nicer and you can up your Instagram game! Reusable bottles are cute where as plastic isn't.

You'll Be Reducing Landfill Waste

Plastic bottles claim to be recycled. In fact, only 1 in 5 bottles get recycled! Even if you think you're recycling your bottles, it may not be going to the place you think. If you don't recycle, the bottle will go straight to landfill. This affects the livelihoods of people, especially when your rubbish gets shipped abroad. It's harmful to the environment and to any animal who get caught in or try to eat it. It may also end up in the ocean.

You'll Protect The Oceans

Did you know, water will actually break down plastics? However, the ocean will break down plastic into "plastic smog", which are tiny toxic particles. These attract further pollutants and can be eaten by fish. When fish ingest these particles, it ends up in our own food chain, so you may be eating plastic particles!

You Aren't Using As Many Valuable Resources

There is a lot of oil that goes into plastic bottles. The US alone used 17 million barrels of oil to fuel their plastic bottle addiction! Oil is a finite resource and could be used for better things than making plastic. It is also very polluting to the environment. By using a Moon bottle or similar, you're using fewer resources. You'll be using the steel that creates the insulated bottle and anything else that goes into it, but you only need one bottle for the rest of your life.

Animals Are Less In Danger

Animals don't understand that plastic is bad for them. They may ingest it or get caught up in it. Both ways will most likely kill then. It sounds cliché, but reducing plastic usage will save the turtles along with many other animals! Plastic can get into the animals' food chain, similar to what I mentioned earlier about fish and our food chain. It can also cause marine eco-system pollution, which is where chemicals leak out of plastics affecting marine wildlife and corals.

There is a lot to take in, but to sum it up, get a reusable bottle and stop using plastic! We're nearing the end of Plastic Free July, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't make a conscious effort the rest of the year. Moon Bottles are an affordable way to help the planet in so many ways. Thank you to Moon Bottles for sending me my stainless steel bottle! It has come in handy a lot recently! Do you use a reusable bottle? Let me know where you bought yours from!

  6. Great review and fantastic reasons.
I get so mad at my kids when they forget to fill one of our millions of water bottles before we go out. I carry mine almost all the time (until I break it or lose it).
