Why You Can Date & Find Love At Any Age

I recently read that dating was a thing of the past. Every year, fewer people get married or stay in long term relationships. I was a little saddened by that as I hope to get married and am excited for a future with my boyfriend. Whether you're young or old, there is no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to find love. With so many reasons why you can find love at any age, it would be silly to stop dating as you reach your older years. Here's why you can find love and date at any age!
You Lead A Different Life To Others
One thing I dislike about relationships is when other people seem to know more about your relationship when you do. You know how quickly you move on. You know if you're happy within your relationship. You know when you're ready. You can find love at any age because you know yourself better than anyone, and no one should be able to dictate how you do things. If you're young, make sure you're happy and prioritising the right things. Don't let someone tell you that "you're too young" to decide if you should be in a relationship or not. If you're older, don't let people dictate how you lie your life. You've had enough knowledge, time and experience to determine if you're falling in love with the right person. You lead a different life to others, and no one can say they share the same experience.
There Is No Perfect Time
You can date at any age because there will never be a perfect time. There is no time like the present to make your move, especially if you're older. With my boyfriend, he was waiting for the perfect time to ask me out. A time where nothing was going on and things were easier. He realised that there is no perfect time and that things will always be tricky. You need to know how to deal with those times together. If you're waiting for the perfect time, realise that there will never be a time where everything is going well. You create the perfect moment yourself. If you're 18 or 80, now is the best time to start dating and find love.
Age Is Just A Number
At a certain point in life, things like age don't matter anymore. It is more common to have older parents, parents with age gaps or a younger parent with an older partner. For example, my parents have a 20 year age gap! You shouldn't let age put you off from finding your dream person. There has even been an increase in over 50s dating as people realise that age is just a number. You can date no matter what your age is because everyone deserves to find love if they want to. There is no rule that you'll find the person you love at age 25 for you to settle down and have kids by 30. You person will come, it just may take a little longer than others.
There Is Someone For Everyone
Just because the first 50 dates didn't go well, doesn't mean the next one won't. I recently watched the Netflix film "Love Guaranteed" where one of the characters went on 1000 dates before he found his match. Don't give up. Give things time. Some people are worth the wait, and there is a person out there for everyone. Just because things have gone badly before, doesn't mean you don't deserve happiness. There is someone out there for everyone. You may not be in the right place at the right time. It can take time for both your paths to meet, so don't feel disheartened if you're still waiting in your older years. The time you've spent searching for the one will be worth it.
Different Ages, Different Experience
As a teenager, you may think you've found your perfect match. For some, that will be the case, but others will move on to the next. At each stage of your life, you would have experienced different things. If you're older and dating, you will be wiser and looking for a more serious relationship. Younger people may not be as interested in a long-term thing. You can date at any age as you'll find something different in a relationship, each time. You'll find things you don't like, traits you look out for and eventually, you'll find the one. Dating isn't limited for teenagers and young adults, as the older, wiser generations would have learnt a thing or two along the way. Who says you can't date over the age of 50?
Your Expectations Are More Realistic
The older you get, the more you realise that movies are fiction and don't usually represent real-life feelings and scenarios. Sadly, there won't be a Prince Charming to sweep you off your feet. You can date at any age because the older you are, the more realistic your expectations are. You won't be living in a fairy tale, something that I've only recently come to terms with. It's easier to fall in love when you're not expecting big gestures all the time and men with huge abs. You fall in love more with the person, their personality and their actions, things that matter in a relationship. The older you are, the more you'll understand money, houses and jobs. When I first started dating, I thought I'd be moved out with children by my early 20's. Now with a full-time job, blog and other commitments, I realise that it's not always that simple. You can date at any age as your expectations will change, and it makes dating a lot easier.
Tips On Finding Love, No Matter Your Age
While there are so many reasons why you can find love at any age, it's easier said than done. Here are some tips that I've picked up along the way. These tips can help you ground yourself and get the courage to put yourself out there. I've even thrown in some from my family members to show you that anyone can use these ideas!
- Don't be desperate to find love as it can lead to you falsifying your feelings
- Use a dating site aimed at your age or interest group
- Set realistic relationship goals - life isn't as romantic as the movie UP
- Keep an open mind to who you're dating and don't rule anyone out
- You find love in the strangest of places, so take on any opportunities you get given
- Don't be put off by past relationships, especially if you've been previously married - not everyone is the same
