How To Fall In Love With Yourself Again + Affirmations

Wednesday, December 09, 2020

It can be hard to love yourself when you keep focusing on the flaws. Everyone has things that they dislike about their body or personality. It's not something that we can change, but we can learn to love them. This new year, fall in love with your body again with these helpful tips and affirmations. Remember, you are enough, and you deserve to love yourself.

Be Kind To Others

When you're kind to others, others will return the favour. You may be wondering why that helps your self-confidence and self-love. When you're kind to others, they will go out of their way to make you feel just as good. Their kindness can make you fall in love with yourself again, especially if you don't really receive compliments. If you're nice to people, you will receive respect and positivity.

If you're nicer to others, you will also respect yourself more. Have you ever said something and instantly regret it? Or maybe you feel bad that you didn't help someone when they needed it. Being kind to others makes you feel like a good person, boosting your self-love. You're allowed to be selfish about some things, but make sure you don't regret missing a chance to help someone.

Say Affirmations Out Loud

Affirmations are like a positive energy, and I truly believe in them. For those who don't know what affirmations are, they are statements which you repeat to yourself. You can say them aloud or in your head. These statements are designed to uplift and encourage the person that is reciting them. You declare your worth, and they can encourage positive change. You need to believe in your self worth before you can fall in love with yourself, and there are so many affirmations to remind yourself of.

Affirmations must be positive. They're along the same lines of "Law of Attraction" where you're bringing change to yourself by believing. You can create your own affirmations, or use some of my self-love affirmations below!

  • I love my body and all it does for me
  • I am more than enough
  • I love and accept the person I am
  • I am doing my best, and that is enough
  • My feelings are valid
  • I am intelligent/creative/talented
  • My talents are precious, and I am grateful for them
  • I am who I am, and I won't change for anyone
  • I trust my own abilities
  • I am a beautiful person and am worthy of respect
  • I am grateful for the body I have been blessed with

Take A Social Media Detox

If you're struggling to fall in love with yourself, take a social media detox. Social media is filled with negativity and positivity, both can be too much for some. With everyone loving the way their body is, people feel pressured to be that way. Equally, there is a lot of negativity around some body types and people being open around the way they look. It can be overwhelming when some people adore a figure, and others are hating on it.

The best thing to do is to take a social media detox. Log out of your social media, possibly for a whole weekend. Relax, and look after your mind and body instead. Remember, you are you. Just because a model is skinny, doesn't mean you HAVE to look like that. Just because an influencer is curvy with stretch-marks, doesn't mean your body is wrong if it doesn't look like that. They are people too, and each influencer is different too. Step away from social media and focus on how amazing you are.

Accept The Compliments

When someone says you look nice, do you turn it down or embrace the compliment? When someone goes out of their way to compliment you or how you do something, accept the compliment. If you turn down a compliment, you're denying yourself the chance to feel happy about a kind comment. As a challenge, write down 5 things that YOU'D compliment yourself on! You can leave them in the comments if you'd like.

When you receive a comment, someone has noticed something special about you and thought you should know. Embrace what people love about you, and slowly you'll love those things too. If you're complimented on your eyes, say thank you and flaunt that feature! If you're complimented about your skills, turn it into something even more people will talk about! When people notice your potential, you should act on that. We live in a world where compliments are harder to come by, so don't reject when someone's appreciating you.

Invest In Yourself

When you invest in something, you look after it more. For example, you don't buy a car to wreck it, you look after it. Your body and mind are the same. If you invest in yourself, you're giving yourself a reason to love yourself more. You treat yourself, which improves your self-love because it's a form of self-care.

Investing in yourself could be as simple as buying a top you feel confident in, or treating yourself to an educational course. Both improve something about you, whether your confidence comes from looking good, or because helping yourself grow. If you invest in yourself and your future, you'll be able to build a life that you can fall in love with!

Acknowledge Your Accomplishments

On your journey to falling in love, you need to realise they you are enough and achieve amazing things. By acknowledging your accomplishments, you're allowing yourself to appreciate the journey that got you to where you are. It's important to focus on the positives, rather than the negatives. Write down 10 things you're proud of achieving, and realise that you're such an amazing person. Whether you got out of bed after a tough day or ran a marathon, achievements can be anything you want.

If you acknowledge yourself for achieving something, you're giving yourself a much-needed pat on the back. You praise your accomplishments, and that can make you feel a lot more worthy of things. Don't take your achievements for granted!

Be Grateful & Appreciative

If you want to love yourself, you need to appreciate the body you've been blessed with. Learn to be grateful and practise gratitude regularly. You can practise gratitude by writing down a list of things you're grateful for. Try to make these about you. For example, you could be grateful for how you look, your creativity or even for the way you cook amazing meals. Everyone is gifted with different things, so make sure you appreciate your talents. There's only one of you! Appreciate what you've been given, and you'll find yourself falling in love with those talents.

Stop The Comparisons

The quickest way to fall in love with yourself is to cut out the comparisons with other people. Everyone has different skills, personality and looks, so don't compare what you have to someone in a different situation. Unfollow accounts that you compare yourself too, especially influencers. Remember that a lot of their lifestyle is faked for the camera. You don't need to be bombarded with unrealistic expectations. Comparing yourself to others makes things really difficult. You could have the same childhood as someone else, but still, turn out completely different because of who you are.

Stopping comparisons can be really hard to do. It's so easy to wish you were someone else, especially when you see flaws. Learning to accept those flaws is important, you can't change everything. Make sure you're only following supportive people. There are lots of body-positive Instagram accounts and ones that encourage self-love. Find accounts that you can relate to, but not compare yourself with. You want to connect with the account runner without becoming obsessed with being like them. They will share even more tips to help you fall in love with yourself!

Loving yourself will take time, but it's not impossible to fall in love with who you are. I struggled with an eating disorder and found it hard to like the way I was. Slowly, I am taking my own advice and am learning to love who I am. It's hard, but when you're confident with yourself, you will be so thankful! What tips would you give to those who want to fall in love with themselves again? I'd love to know your stories or what helped you on your journey to self-love!
